I haven't tried to omit the fact that I am a full on sci-fi geek. Most days, though, I like to keep this to myself, however the sonic screwdriver in my purse sometimes gives me away. I grew up on Star Trek and Star Wars. Stargate was more my brother's show that I watched from time to time. Recently I've started watching it again. Mainly because Michael Shanks is in it and in admittance to more sci-fi-ness, I'm a sucker for Smallville.

Driving home one day I crossed this cemetery and for some reason that trellis reminded me of the stargate. Though, honestly, it's more like a holodeck door I suppose. Still I dressed up and made sure to take some pictures . . . in the rain. But we must suffer for scenery.

Breakfast Club

Outfit Details:
Coat: Kmart
Lace Sleeves: Hottopic
Shirt & Shoes & Necklace: Forever21
Skirt: Lace Affair
Belt: Charlotte Russe
Tights: Target
Bracelet: Gift
Cat: Oublie

I wore this to a breakfast, out in a cafe. It was girly and fun. Plus, I got an early morning cafe mocha, which made my day.  It's been a busy week, which, strangely, ensures more outfit photos. But I think things are finally slowing down some.

I had not intended on watching the Oscars, but the dresses pulled me in. I think my favorite dresses was between Anne Hathaway's pink number (though the dress looked liked it needed ironed) Salma Hayek's Egyptian inspired dress, or Amanda Seyfried's fairy tale dress. The performance by the cast of Les Mis  gave me goosebumps and, of course, I enjoyed the Captain Kirk skit. I think it might have been one of my more favorite Oscar shows that I have been alive to witness. My favorite moment, besides the Les Mis number, was when Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar for best actress and tripped. Not in a  mean way, but rather because I adored how she handled it. Also, I was really happy that she won. What was your favorite part?

The Forest with Me and My Friends

Outfit Details:
Airforce World War II coat: Vintage
Shirt & Belt: Kohl's
Scarf: made from remnants of a dress from Target
Earrings & Skirt: Made by me
Necklace: World Market
Ring: Belgium
Tights: Target
Shoes: Forever21
Bracelet: Icing
Puppie: Ollie
Cat: Oublie

The title of this blog post sounds like it should be a children's story. If it was, a puppy, a cat, and a human would wander into an old deserted farm land and be sucked into a land of old where magic and disaster is. Maybe not too much of a children's story I suppose.

I might have gone a little overboard with the pictures, but when you have such a cute puppy that wants to be photographed, it's hard to say enough. I was feeling very forest-y this day, and so dressed in browns and greens to match. I think all my animals enjoyed the walk about the farm, though I should be more practical and leave the heels behind.

It is finally starting to warm up. Right now the sun is shining and it's nearing forty degrees outside. It was a great morning as I finally managed to get a run into my schedule. I love running because I love being outside, it is as simple as that. Now after that exhausting run, I'm going to take a lazy day and enjoy the sunshine.

"Sisters, Sisters"

Outfit Details:
Airforce coat & Airforce Sweatheart ring: Vintage
Green Leather Jacket: Forever21
Lace vest: TJ Maxx
Dress: Hottopic
Necklace & Bracelet & Purse: Forever21
Tights & Shoes: Target
Puppy: Indigo

I went up to the city to spend the night with my sister. We went to a french group, shopped, watched TV, ate out, and used book shopped. It was our Valentine's Day and unintentionally I even dressed for the holiday.

When it comes to sisters, I always think of that one song from the movie -  White Christmas. "Never were there such devoted sisters." With all the coldness, it has been making me think back to Christmas. However, I think I'm ready to move warm weather. I've got cabin fever.

Book Review: The Treachery of Beautiful Things

Outfit Details:
Cardigan & Jeggings: Kohl's
Shirt: Forever21
Necklace: Made by me
Shoes: Macy's

Published: August 2012
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Length: 363 pages

I spotted this book at Barnes and Noble and it was the title that first caught my attention. Almost immediately, I sought it out at my local library, adding it to the pile of books I've been meaning to read. It's the first book by Ruth Frances Long that I've read or even seen. But her writing and weaving of a faerie land into a beautiful story has made me a fan of her work.

The story is about Jenny whose brother, some seven years ago, was stolen into a forest by trees. She goes to the spot that claimed her brother to finally say goodbye and gets pulled into the magical forest herself. Whilst seeking to find the piper, who she believes must be her brother, encounters the deadly dangers of the forest and, of course, meets a handsome, mysterious young man.

I really like the beginning where the focus is on the sibling's relationship. Maybe it's because I'm so close with my family, but that, more than any enticing ofantasy, romance, or my love of all these forest-y could offer, is what led me to this book. The story is the kind that just fills me with inspiration and longing for lands and stories such as these. Ruth pulls together her words into an easy read, while managing the feel of sheer poetry.

Predictability? It's in the middle ground, but sincerely enjoyable. It gives you that feel good ending, while still giving you a few twists along the way. I won't give up any spoilers, but I definitely suggest giving this book a try if you like fantasy romances at all. I could hardly put it down, well I did, but just for a coffee break.

Tell me what you thought of the book; and if you having any reading suggests lay it out there in a comment.

Returning to Cranford

Outfit Details:
Jacket & Shirt: Forever21
Skirt: Made by me
Belt: Charlotte Russe
Sweater Tights: Tj Maxx
Abby Boots: Hottopic
Choker & Earrings: Claire's (repurposed by me)
Airforce Sweatheart ring: Vintage
Black Ring: Gift-Belgium
Purse: Charming Charlie

I adore romance. However, I have the bad habit of cracking up during what are supposed to be serious romantic scenes. I've been watching the Return to Cranford and sincerely enjoying it. Tom Hiddleston is in it - Loki from Thor and Avengers - I've really started to like him. I liked him even when he was a bad guy, but now that he's the good guy you root for I absolutely adore him. I have such a weakness for period English shows. Cranford always makes me think of the Shakespear play Much to do about Nothing. Watch the tv show and I think you'll understand.

Modern Girl in a Modern World

Outfit Details:
Coat & Skirt: Kohl's
Shawl: Forever21
Shirt: Thrifted - originally from Forever21
Tights & Boots: Target
Purse: Marc's
Necklace: Made by me
Earrings: Museum gift shop - brand 1920

I have officially stepped into the modern world with my first ever smart phone. My last phone I have had for almost four years, and while I adore it (and the I heart voting stick on the back) it was becoming increasingly annoying as the buttons weren't working. Yeah, it had buttons and it's small. I've liked that I didn't have a smart phone, but it's nearly impossible to find a good non-smart phone. So I'm happily conceding to the modern world. I can listen to music on it and surf the web and read books on it! What marvels! So now I happy to introduce my instragram account to those that might want to follow. ---> instragram
