Picnic Dress by the Lake

Outfit Details:
Pretty - Pretty Picnic Dress & Luxe and Wanderlust Necklace & Best of Times Heel: Modcloth

Lakeside is one of my favorite places. Often I've documented my favorite outfit there (like this one and this one). This dress is still awaiting the perfect occasion to show it off, which, like the title, I imagine to be a picnic.

What Makes the Dress

Outfit Details:
Dress: Forever21
Vest: so old I can't remember
Necklace: Ebay

I bought this burnt, red dress with powerful ideas and good intentions. But it's always different in practice than in theory. I'm still trying to find just how to wear this little dress best. For this try I pulled out my darkest lip stain from NYX and ran with the Gothic Victorian feel. I think I'll have to try a few more pairings before I find the one that makes it.

Few of My Favorite Things

Outfit Details:
Sweater: Kohl's (forever ago)
Lace Top: Ebay
Necklace: Lace Affair
Purse: Charlotte Russe

These photos cover a lot of my favorite things: one of my favorite places in Maine, one of my favorite necklaces, and one of my favorite shoes. The shoes I love so much I actually own two pairs, in two different colors - honestly I kind of wish I had bought a third in red. The necklace is definitely one of my most worn necklaces - it's pretty long, but I double it up for the shorter aappearance

This is a little hiding spot in Maine, a public beach that is rarely crowded. I spent many of my mornings this past summer there reading and digesting my breakfast. It's kind of nice to see summer pictures while watching the snow fall.

Beauty of the Hillside

Outfit Details:
Shirt: TJmax
Shawl: Forever21
Necklace: Vintage
Earrings: gift

This is one of my favorite new places. The pictures are absolutely stunning, but it's even more so in real life. The first time I went there I just stopped dead in my tracks and felt so content, so peaceful. I may have the soul of a wanderer - a traveler; but that isn't to say that I can't keep still. Let me stumble upon a peaceful mountain and I'll stay there until at last the wind blows me into the sea, preferably with a tale or three to share.

Winter Greens

Outfit Details:
Coat: Kohl's
Shirt: Rue21
Sleeves: Belgium

I stalked this skirt on Modcloth for the longest time and when it finally came back into stock I had to pounce. The shoes are one of my favorites, I own them in two colors.

Very rarely have I tried photo taking inside, just because of lighting issues, but that winter day was perfect for it. After my usual outside setting, I sneaked back inside and got to reveal a little corner of my room, and one of my favorite reading spots. Everyone should have at least two.

. . . Not Who I Was, Yet Not Who I Will Be

Outfit Details:
Soda Shop Sweetie Dress & Best of Times Heels: Modcloth
Earrings: Lace affair
Haircomb & Ring: Vintage
Necklace: gift

This dress was on my wishlist forever. It ran out of stock before I had a chance to snag it and when it came back I waited and waited. The best ones are always like that. I need I good petticoat yet for it and then it'll be complete and come this late spring I'll wear it out on a picnic or something equally perfect.

Red Shirt

Outfit Details:
Shirt: JCPenney(?)
Wendy Dress: Lace Affair
Earrings: Claire's
Puppy: Drogon

Some joke about red shirts and Star Trek should be made. I'll refrain, especially since I did survive that sunny, sunny day and a play date with a black, German shepherd. But really it's taking all my will.

Windows and Such

Outfit Details:
Jacket: Wetseal
Top & Watch: Ebay
Skirt: made by me
Necklace: gift
Earrings: Forever21

Funny and all, one of the best uses my blog has, is that later when I'm in a crunch, deciding what to wear, I can browse through all the pictures I've taken. Some little pieces of fashion I come back to time and time again because they are adorable and I love them so.

This skirt and necklace are just so - and so are the heels now that I think about it. The skirt I made out of leftover fabric from a chair cover - laugh, go on - it was terribly Sound of Music of me, but it turned out awesome. The necklace was a gift from a coworker - she made it herself and let me pick out one of her creations. I picked that one because it reminded me of Pocahontas. The heels were one of my first purchases from Modcloth and definitely was a wise choice - especially since I don't own many shoes that aren't boots. Here's to pieces that get their use!

A Little Victorian

Outfit Details:
Top & Earrings: Lace Affair
Skirt: Forever21
Best of Times Heel & Necklace: Modcloth

Some days I do dress with a certain style or time period in mind and this was one of those times. I don't often venture like I used to for pictures, but this time I went to one of my favorite parks, first for pictures and then to escape. I ended up going down some trail-in heels no less-for these pictures, not the best idea I've ever had,  but you have to love the result.

Work Attire

Outfit Details:
Dress: Bodycentral
Ring: Forever21
Belt: Kohl's
Dragon necklace: Medieval Collectibles

This is something a little more work oriented than I normally wear, but it was for work, so that makes sense, right? I've owned this dress for a few years, having purchased it back during junior year of high school. More recently, to make it feel a little more professional, I took off the suspenders it had. It's always a nice surprise to find something that you've had forever that can be used today. It makes you feel good about never getting rid of those clothes, well almost.

My schedule's crazy for the next couple of weeks, so I probably won't be posting so regularly as I'd like, but when October returns I should be right back on track.

Have a good September! (In my town it's the month of fairs!)

My Mainstreet + My 100th Post

I could go on and on about my hundredth post, but I really don't feel like I need to. It is kind of funny though, I feel like I've had this blog forever and yet still like I couldn't have composed one hundred outfits already (well almost, some posts were about books instead).
Outfit Details:
Skirt & Necklace: Made by me
Belt: Kohl's
Ring: Forever21
Purse: Marc's

The mainstreet of my little village is a pretty place, through the years the town has tweeked it and improved it. Funny, but I can't really remember what it looked like in the beginning. We always have a street fair on that main street once a year where it's standing room only; but otherwise it's a quiet and quaint location. The perfect place for a walk, I'm sure about that. I've always lived here so I might be biased.

Sometimes, for outfits, the merging of patterns can be overwhelming, but I think the subtle pattern of the green skirt matches well with the toile dress. Plus the heels just complete the outfit. It was outside my comfort zone taking pictures as many cars passed by. It was just me, with a dinky tripod. But it was a quiet Sunday, and most people were probably at home, so it worked out in the end.
