Blue Toile and Falling Off of Docks

Outfit Details: Jacket (TJmaxx) Vest (thrifted) Porcelain Style Dress (also pictured here & here) & Necklace & From the Same Cloth Boots (ModCloth)

So that last photo? That was me realizing the wooden pole I was leaning against was not secure and I almost fell in.

I'm learning to be a little braver with my photo taking. I used to go to places no one would bother and stop if someone happened walked by. Not so much anymore, maybe Prague broke me of that. I even had a nice conversation with a stranger who kindly asked what I was doing and why I was doing it. I guess it's about time I started embracing this, I have only been doing it for seven years.

I'm pretty excited about this holiday season, I'm normally a bit of a grinch, but not this year. I'm looking forward to the whole season and especially going home and seeing all my family. I hope everyone has a happy holiday and feels a little bit merry!

Ocean Trapped

Outfit Details:
Sweater & Shirt & Tights & Shorts & Socks: Target
Boots: Ebay
Scarf: Paris

I recently read a post about how it was a fashion "don't" to wear all the same brand. I narrowly escaped such a mistake. We must thank my shoes and scarf, otherwise, I would have committed fashion suicide it seems. It's impossible to know from one look that my wardrobe comes from one store, and I may seem a walking advertisement for Target, but I wouldn't call it a fashion don't. Fashion "don'ts" are other people's opinions of what they think shouldn't be worn - but that's my own opinion. Fashion is subjective and what is beautiful and comfortable to one will not be for others. Let's not try to judge the crowds on it, alright?

The Comfort of (Historical) Fashion

For as long as I remember I've loved dressing up. Not necessarily just in fancy clothing, but in anything that made me feel magical. Perhaps that is what I love so much about period clothing. I grew up on history. Despite the comings and goings of my other interests history has always been at the top. As children my parents took us many places that exposed us to the rich historical culture. Mostly, though, I remember places like Colonial Williamsburg.

Say what people may about fashion and clothing, but one of the greatest things about it is how it can make you feel beautiful. It isn't about the price or the brand-though sometimes they seem to help-it's about how they make you feel. Fashion is magic, the ability it has to change your attitude. I still like to get dressed up, even if I have nowhere to go, or even if it needs a corset that seems to shed three inches off my waist.

Dress: Made by my mother
Necklace: Online somewhere, forever ago

This is a dress my mother made, she actually made it for herself, but later on made alterations so that it could fit me. Funny thing is that I had a corset before I even had a dress to wear it with. I can't help but like period clothing. It's fitting, I suppose. People might be surprised by my interests because at first glance I'm that girl who likes makeup, hair, and cfashion, but of course like everything it stems much deeper than that. History and it's influences have always been my favorite subject.

Boeuf Bourguignon & Christmas Eve

 Outfit Details:
Cape: Kmart
Jacket: Hottopic
Dress: Lace Affair
Belt: Kohl's
Gloves & Rainboots: Target
Tights: Target and Hottopic
Purse: H&M
Choker: gift
Necklace: vintage
Earrings: Body Central

Merry Christmas!

In my family Christmas Eve is more exciting that Christmas by all accounts. For dinner we have Boeuf Bourguignon, which if you've ever seen Julie and Julia you might recall the trials with the french stew. I can't remember a time when we haven't had it for dinner. We also have delicious french bread, fruit soup, and salad. After dinner we have some extended family over for cookies and tea and exchange fun gifts. Right before we go to bed my parents would let us open one present, normally from our stockings. It sounds simple, but perhaps that is what is best about it. It isn't really about the food or the presents, but about the people-though I'm not trying to get all mushy on you.

On to these pictures, this dress has quickly become my new favorite. While pink has never been a favorite color of mine, I love the combination of the black lace with such a soft color. It was so cold that day that I wore two pairs of tights, which actually had a pretty cool effect, and I'll probably do the solid color under lace tights again soon.

Well, now that all the presents are wrapped, dinner is stewing, and it's finally snowing it seems like Christmas is finally here. I'll wish you Merry Christmas once more and I hope you have an awesome one.

A Love of Red

 Outfit Details:
Cartigan and undershirt : Kohls
Shirt: thrifted - originally from Forever21
skirt: Forever 21
tights: Charlotte Russe
shoes: Hottopic
purse: Old Navy
earrings: can't remember
rings: gifts
necklace: Rue 21

I can't remember when red became my favorite color, I don't think it really ever has. It just suddenly happened that I was drawn to red, like I once had been drawn to black-still am if I am being honest.

I found this skirt at Forever21 a long time ago and didn't buy it because I hardly ever buy things unless they are on sale. When I went back almost two seasons later, I looked over all the racks hoping desperately that the red leather skirt was there-I was even going to buy it full price. Well, the store did have it, but in the wrong size. Some might have taken this as a sign, not me. After sleeping on it for a few nights I searched it out online and bought it. I don't regret it one bit. Those are the best additions to one's closet, the ones that we managed to snag especially after thinking them over for forever.

This shirt has a similar story. My sister has the same shirt and on one or two occasions I borrowed it. I fell in love with it, but by this time the store was out of stock. Over a year later, while I was with my sisters, out thrifting. As a group effort they found it, being awesome as she is, my sister remembered how much I loved that shirt. Even better, it was steal for only two dollars.

What has been the best snag you have ever managed for your closet?

Born in the Wrong Time

Outfit Details:
Dress: Ruche (same)
Boots: target (similar/very close)
Tights: Hottopic
Earrings : Icing
Belt : from a dress from Hottopic
Leather Jacket: Wetseal
Purse: Forever21
WWII air-force coat: vintage

The picture of the back of the dress was taken by my best friend-Natalie-when we took a walk around town. The shoes, in that picture, are the same from the previous post - the ones from Belgium. The snood I put my hair up in was made by my mom, which I might have permanently borrowed, oops!

The air-force coat is perhaps my favorite piece of clothing I own. It was a present from my mom. I actually got the whole uniform, however the pants are a little too snug to fit me. The guy had to have a 25 inch waist. When these pictures were taken it was a little too warm for the wool coat, but I felt that it just went too well with the dress to not document it, at least for one picture.

As stated in the title I often feel I was born in the wrong time. I wish I had been born in the twenties so that I could be in my prime in the early forties. Or I would have liked to have lived in medieval times, though I would want modern plumbing.

Hope you have an awesome day(s)!
